How did you first become involved with the Simama Project?
My journey with the Simama Project began in 2017 when I was a student facing challenges in accessing education. I first heard about Simama through my headteacher, who had previously interacted with the organization and encouraged me to join. Becoming a beneficiary gave me the opportunity to continue my education and build a brighter future. Inspired by the support I received, I am now proud to serve as a Social Worker with the Simama Project, helping empower other young people to achieve their dreams.
What is your current role at Simama?
Currently, I work at Simama Project as a Social Worker and I am also in charge of Social Media. In my role as a Social Worker, I conduct home visits, provide counselling and psychosocial support, mentor children and youth, prepare reports, and work closely with families and community stakeholders to promote the well-being of vulnerable children. As the Social Media Lead, I document the organization's activities, and share stories that showcase Simama's impact while raising awareness and engaging supporters.
What is your favorite thing about working with the Simama Project?
Being both a beneficiary and now a staff member at the Simama Project has given me a unique perspective and a deep passion for serving others. I feel excited and proud of what Simama has done for me and for the community at large. Being part of an organization that transformed my life has strengthened my commitment to empowering children and young people through education, mentorship, and community support, helping them achieve their full potential.
From your perspective, what is the most interesting or challenging aspect of the type of work that Simama does?
I am passionate about community development, child protection, counselling, mentorship, and using digital platforms to create positive change. Working with the Simama Project has been both interesting and challenging because of the nature of the work we do. Every day brings new experiences, opportunities to learn, and different situations that require patience, creativity, and commitment. Supporting children, families, and communities through their challenges has helped me grow professionally and personally. My experiences have strengthened my resilience, adaptability, and dedication to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy adventure, including visiting new places, exploring different environments, and experiencing new cultures and perspectives. Adventure helps me refresh my mind, appreciate the beauty of different places, and gain new experiences that contribute to my personal growth. I also enjoy playing volleyball, which helps me build teamwork skills, stay active, and maintain a healthy balance between my professional and personal life.
What is your favorite piece of Art? (painting, book, movie, TV show, play, dance, song, sculpture, etc.)
I enjoy watching movies and listening to music as some of my favorite forms of art and relaxation. I especially enjoy listening to local music because it reminds me of my culture, traditions, and the changes happening in society. These forms of art help me refresh my mind, gain new perspectives, appreciate different stories and creativity, and find inspiration from the experiences shared through them.
