How did you first become involved with the Simama Project?

I first became involved with the Simama Project in 2020 as an intern from Chuka University, where I gained valuable practical experience working with children, families and the community. I returned to Simama as a volunteer in 2021, and in 2022, I was given the opportunity to join the organization as a staff member where I started as a social worker and eventually became the Outreach Coordinator.

What is your current role at Simama?

I serve as the Outreach Coordinator at Simama, coordinating school outreach activities and community engagement. In my role, I provide administrative and program support to help ensure the smooth coordination of daily activities and the effective implementation of our programs. My responsibilities include organizing and maintaining program records, collecting and updating participant data, preparing reports and supporting communication and follow-up on various tasks.

I also serve as a communications lead, gathering and organizing stories and other information for reports, newsletters and social media content. Through these responsibilities, I contribute to the efficient running of the organization, support communication and collaboration among team members and help ensure that program activities and the impact of Simama Project's work are well documented and communicated.

What is your favorite thing about working with the Simama Project?

My favorite thing about working with Simama is seeing the positive impact we make in children’s lives and being part of their journey toward a brighter future. I am especially passionate about helping children build confidence, discover their potential and access opportunities they might not otherwise have. Seeing a child grow in self-esteem, return to school or begin to believe in their dreams reminds me why this work matters so much to me.

From your perspective, what is the most interesting or challenging aspect of the type of work that Simama does?

The most interesting and challenging part is understanding each child’s unique story and finding the right support to help them overcome their challenges. It can be difficult, but seeing their growth, confidence and progress makes the work truly rewarding.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy crocheting, travelling and spending time with family and friends.

What is your favorite piece of Art? (painting, book, movie, TV show, play, dance, song, sculpture, etc.)

My favorite piece of art is a good movie because I enjoy stories that are inspiring and are relatable. My favorite movies are those centered on detective investigations, crime mysteries and legal dramas. I enjoy stories that involve solving cases, uncovering the truth, and seeing justice served.
