How did you first become involved with the Simama Project?
I first connected with Simama in 2015 after visiting Nanyuki and instantly falling in love with the town and its people. Wanting to contribute meaningfully, I searched for local organizations and was drawn to Simama’s mission. I began as a volunteer in early 2016, and a few months later, I was offered the Outreach Coordinator position — the start of a journey I deeply cherish.
What is your current role at Simama?
I am the Director of the Simama Center of Worth which is a dedicated space where children and youth receive individual and group counseling, life skills workshops, mentorship and education tutoring. The Center compliments other programs by addressing emotional and behavioral needs. As Director, I oversee these programs that nurture emotional, social, and educational growth, ensuring each child feels seen, supported, and valued. I have the privilege of walking closely with our children as they rebuild their confidence and begin to believe in their own potential.
What is your favorite thing about working with the Simama Project?
My favorite thing about Simama is the sense of family and teamwork, everyone truly cares about the children and about each other, there's such a spirit of compassion, collaboration and shared purpose creating a beautiful environment for everyone involved to grow and thrive - it makes coming to work deeply fulfilling.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love being at the gym — after a busy day, I really look forward to a good workout to unwind. I also enjoy spa days, where I get to slow down, reset, and treat myself to a little self-care. It’s my favorite way to recharge both body and mind, a nature walk at day break also- it has the perfect view of Mt. Kenya!
